Tropical Vegan Citrus Smoothie + A Giveaway!

Tropical Vegan Citrus Smoothie + A Giveaway

Hi and welcome back to Ria Lives Well!

“Don’t let it happen to me, don’t let happen to me!” It’s happening to me.

I’m getting sick.

I’m like 99 percent sure it’s stress induced, but that one percent goes to the guy who sat behind me in my Media Theory class who coughed and sneezed at the back of my neck for one hour and 20 minutes. Son of a…

I’m now experiencing “the common cold” symptoms. You know what I’m talking about:

  • The coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Sniffling
  • Aches coursing through every inch of my body.

So here’s my plan of attack:

A creamy vegan citrus smoothie that’s loaded with antioxidants to fight the illness wreaking havoc on my system.

I pretty much ripped off the base recipe from my creamy blueberry smoothie; that combination of ingredients paired so well together {creating a blueberry DESSERT} that I thought; let me do this again, but with a whopping dose of citrus.

I also received a free two week supply of All Day Energy Greens by the Institute for Vibrant Living. I mentioned it briefly in my last post, but I finally got the chance to use it in my vegan citrus smoothie . This vegan supplement is packed with enough nutrients to squash my ailments and keep the flu at bay for a while.

Right now, I’m only introducing the supplement, but after two weeks, I’ll give a full review. And if you want to get a head start on the benefits, make a purchase, throw into your smoothies and make your own assessment of All Day Energy Greens.

Tropical Vegan Citrus Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 frozen orange
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple
  • 1/2 of a mango
  • 1/2 cup coconut fat (from a can)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon All Day Energy Greens (optional)

Chop and freeze all the fruits except for the mango. Throw the coconut milk into a blender, then your fruits, vanilla extract, brown sugar and optional All Day Energy Greens (or other supplement).

I didn’t use the All Day Energy Greens with this smoothie because I wanted to see how it tasted on its own. Next time I make my tropical citrus smoothie, I will be using the supplement, and posting the results on Twitter. Crossing my fingers for one hell of a green smoothie.

So why are these ingredients so incredible at fighting cold symptoms? Because they’re rich in vitamins and minerals.

  • Vitamin c (well. duh) and vitamin a.
  • Antioxidants (which protects your cells from free radicals that weaken the immune system)
  • Calcium (builds strong bones, says mom)
  • Potassium (which helps utilize protein–and we all know what protein is good for)
  • Magnesium (most important mineral in building strong bones–yes, more important than calcium).

Take it with you wherever you go. Let this vegan smoothie go to work for you; let it be your flu buster.
