Orange & Lemon {Cold + Flu Groin Kick} Smoothie

Orange & Lemon {Cold + Flu Groin Kick} Smoothie

Hi and welcome back to Ria Lives Well!

Although the worst of flu season is behind us, I still managed to catch something. It hasn’t “officialized” itself in the form of a cold or flu yet, but I know it’s there. It reveals itself in an obvious fashion: stuffy nose; a restriction in your throat that makes swallowing a chore; tonsils tenderized; body aches, like, everywhere. Oh yeah. Somethin’s a-comin’

Whatever bug I caught, it’s not welcomed in my system. And just to prove how unwelcome it is, I made an orange and lemon smoothie bursting with vitamin C, a few of my favorite spices and my new secret healthy ingredient: turmeric. I am in love with turmeric.

Orange & Lemon {Cold + Flu Groin Kick} Smoothie

  • 2 cups soy milk (less if you desire a thicker texture)
  • 1/4 cup silken tofu
  • 3 teaspoons coconut milk (from the can)
  • 3 oranges
  • 1/2 a lemon
  • 1 teaspoon or more vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon or more cinnamon
  • 5 dashes of cloves
  • pinch turmeric (optional)
  • dash of ginger
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
  • 3 ice cubes

Directions:

  • Chop your fruits, remove the seeds.
  • Throw everything into a blender. Blend until smooth.

*This drink is best the day you make it.

Garnish with cinnamon and orange zest. Actually, I don’t recommend garnishing with orange zest. For the obvious reason.

I love how these natural ingredients blended so well together. The smoothie isn’t very sweet-even with a touch of brown sugar-which I was very pleased with. It’s not a dessert. To me, it’s more like medicine. The tastiest, most natural medicine I’ve ever had, but medicine nonetheless.

I plan to drink this in the morning, and turmeric milk at night. That oughta get the job done. So do your worst. I’m ready for you!

Coming down with that iffy flu feeling? Hopefully this citrus smoothie can be your elixir.
